Summary:
A coding compliance program can identify issues with coding and billing early in the revenue cycle process so they can be fixed in a timely manner. As coders and auditors, we have the responsibility to ensure that the documentation in the medical record supports the services billed.  Failure to have an effective and robust coding compliance program at your institution (hospital, physician practice, etc) can lead to a higher risk of external audits as well as lost revenue.  During this session we’ll discuss the seven elements of a compliance program, and some ways to implement and/or improve coding compliance.  We’ll also discuss how Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has incorporated provider education into our auditing and compliance program, and the importance of coding, revenue cycle and compliance working as a team.
