The 2021 Virtual Fall Conference Series - Attendee Registration

The Fall Educational Conference Series will include 6 days of two educational sessions worth 2 CEUs for attendees including time to network with colleagues.   

Attendees can register for the session's individually or for the full conference which includes a total of 13 CEUs along with networking and social forums with other attendees and sponsors. 

Session 1: 10:30am – 12:30pm
Speaker:  James S. Kennedy, MD, CCS, CDIP, CCDS is the Founder and President of CDIMD
Title:  ICD-10 FY 2022 Coding Updates & Other Topics
Summary:  This session will cover the ICD-10 FY22 Updates including the changes in guidelines and implementation of new codes.  Dr. Kennedy will cover the controversial aspects and codes that have the most impact on inpatient and outpatient coding.

Title:  Cardiology and Orthopedics for ICD-10-PCS FY2022
Summary:  The FY2022 update for ICD-10-PCS contains codes for multiple cardiology and orthopedic procedures.  This presentation will explain the most significant of these updates using clear descriptions, videos and images.

Day 2 – Friday – September 24, 2021 – Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity

Title:  Artificial Intelligence: The next revolution
Summary:  Artificial intelligence (AI) may have a bigger impact on society than the Internet and mobile devices. However, AI is surrounded by a fog of hype about its promise and anxiety about its problems.  What is the maturity and possible impact of AI? What can health care providers do to thoughtfully manage AI adoption? This presentation will define AI, review potential near term applications and discuss AI management strategies and practices.

Title:  Cybersecurity During a Pandemic: The New Cybersecurity threat Landscape of Covid-19
Summary:  This presentation focuses on threat intelligence for Covid-19 related cyberattacks and then pivots to discuss how hospitals can secure their remote staff and workforce based in health information management that have shifted to a remote work force by hospitals.

Day 5 – Wednesday – October 13, 2021– Leadership

Title:  Leadership from the front seat of the COVID rollercoaster
Presenter:  Naomi Lenane Chief Information Officer& Vice President Informat at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Summary:  2020 has required significant effort at hospitals, health systems and vendors to develop and/or implement new software solutions for COVID response.  The solutions range from overnight implementations of telehealth to supply chain vaccine distribution solutions.  Through all of this, the role of the CIO has not focused on technical expertise, but leadership skill to motivate their team to execute on high profile, critical solutions during a world-wide pandemic.

The CIO has the unique opportunity to bring solutions to the broader organization, but it is only with a highly functioning team that success will be achieved.  This session will focus on what has worked to date and what will be needed to see this roller coaster through to the end.

Title:  HCCs: The cornerstone of the Outpatient CDI Program
Presenter:  Phil Goyeau, Healthcare Solutions Executive at 3M Health Information Systems
Summary:  Outpatient CDI programs focus on accurate coding for co-morbidities across multiple care settings and have adapted to support the ever-changing challenges faced by our providers.  Out of necessity, these programs have continued to expand and accurately capturing Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs) is a leading focus.  This session will review this expansion of population-based care, how HCCs are the cornerstone in managing at risk populations and how they have become increasingly important to ensure appropriate reimbursement.

We will do a deeper dive into HCCs and population health programs, review current best practices for an OP CDI program, and will share how technology is helping advance these programs.

Title:  Introduction to ICD-11

Summary:  This session will be an introduction to ICD-11.  The World Health Assembly approved a resolution to adopt the International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision, (ICD-11) on May 25, 2019. It will go into effect as the new international standard on January 1, 2022. 

Note:  There will be a follow up workshop hosted by the same presenters on January 21, 2022 where the participants will actually use the ICD-11 coding tool and browser to code conditions.  The session will include various examples of classifying conditions using the WHO coding tool and browser and provide feedback on various aspects of using ICD-11 MMS in its native form.
