Sandy Macica is Director of Educational Content for Libman Education. Sandy plays a critical role in ensuring the relevance and quality of online courses to maintain Libman Education’s commitment to provide timely and accurate information to our customers.
Sandy brings a diversity of experience to the development of online education for hospital coders. Believing that coding is both challenging and critically important, Sandy’s writing and editing of courses focuses on the skills most needed by today’s employers. She is committed to the professional development of individual coders through the attainment of recognized coding credentials. Sandy was most recently the Coding Content Manager for the Revenue Cycle and Compliance segment of Elsevier where she developed extensive educational products related to ICD-10-CM/PCS.
Some of Sandy’s previous work experience includes:
• Manager for an HIM consulting firm in upstate New York where she assisted inpatient and outpatient health care facilities with coding, billing and documentation reviews, HIM department management, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues, compliance strategies, and Charge Description Master (CDM) maintenance and consolidation.
• Compliance/Reimbursement Specialist, Health Information Systems Supervisor, and Data Quality Specialist at a community hospital
• Clinical practicum instructor and adjunct faculty in a Health Information Technology program instructing students in ICD-9-CM, CPT, and Pathophysiology.
Sandy is a member of AHIMA and NYHIMA. Sandy served on the board of Directors as President of the Adirondack Health Information Management Association (AdHIMA) and recently as President of the New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA).
Sandy earned a Master of Science degree in Health Service Administration from Russell Sage College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS trainer.
