Linda Sanches is a Senior Advisor for Health Information Privacy in the Office for Civil Rights within the federal Department of Health and Human Services. She leads the HIPAA privacy and security audit program mandated by the HITECH Act. She also created and implemented other HITECH related efforts, such as the training of state attorneys general on HIPAA enforcement and the recent de-identification guidance.
In her time at OCR she had played diverse roles, including standing up the Privacy Rule enforcement program. Before joining OCR, Linda was a lead member of the teams that created the Privacy Rule as well as the other HIPAA administrative simplification standards. She has shaped immigrant health policy, supported the implementation of the SCHIP program and staffed health care reform efforts in the US Senate.
Ms. Sanches entered federal service as a Presidential Management Fellow. She earned a Masters of Public Health in health policy and administration from UC Berkeley and an AB in human biology from Brown University.
