The Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA) Nominating Committee needs your input and suggestions for possible candidates to serve on the Board of Directors.  Perhaps you!

The rewards and benefits of volunteering for service to MaHIMA are boundless, especially in this unique and exciting time in the HIM profession.  This is a wonderful opportunity to mentor, network, develop public speaking skills and become a valuable asset to your state association.  As a Board member, your expertise is valued and much needed in order to keep MaHIMA and its members strong through our activities as a Component State Association of AHIMA.

We ask you to suggest fellow members and/or yourself as a possible candidate for the MaHIMA Executive Board positions for the next fiscal year July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019.

Detailed information on the positions and requirements are provided below.

President – Elect:
Serves for a term of three (3) years, continuing on as President, then Past President.

This is a one year position that assumes the President position in year two and Past-President in year three. During the first year, serves in a mode of “learning the ropes”, serve on the Planning, Finance and Awards Committee while also supporting other MaHIMA Officers in their roles.  As President, you will assume the leadership of MaHIMA and guide the Association into the future.  As Past-President you will chair the Planning Committee and serve as alternate delegate to AHIMA. During all three years you will be a delegate to the AHIMA House of Delegates.  Candidates for this position must be able to travel to national meetings.  Travel expenses are paid by MaHIMA.

Director – Communications:
Director of Communications (DOC) serves for a term of two (2) years.

This is a two-year position responsible for managing and coordinating the communications effort of MaHIMA. The DOC leads MaHIMA efforts to promote our profession, HIM national initiatives as well as our state organization.  As Director, you will also oversee the awards process for acknowledging deserving members and students in the state. Candidates running for this Board position should have an interest in public service, marketing and initiative to promote the profession in creative ways so that HIM visibility is noticeably elevated. During this two year position, you will represent the Association as a Delegate to AHIMA.

Elected Board of Director (BOD) persons are expected to:

  • Be a current  AHIMA member in good standing
  • Have Massachusetts as primary AHIMA Component State Association (CSA)
  • Attend all meetings of the Association and Board. In person Board meetings are generally held 4 times a year for 3-4 hours each meeting.  For April’s BOD meeting, plan for a six hour meeting starting with a strategic plan session and ending with the usual Board meeting.  The days of the meeting are determined by the incoming President.
  • Time expectations include about 10 hours a month.  Three to four hours for the BOD meeting, BOD follow/up items, emails, and regularly visits to the AHIMA and State leaders Engage.
  • Have employer support
  • Have computer and email access
  • Be able to travel local and out of state

Travel Assignments

  • President/President-Elect
    AHIMA Leadership Symposium – Chicago, IL – 3 days (usually Thursday – Saturday in July)
  • President, President-Elect, Past President, Director of Communications
    National AHIMA House of Delegates – 2 days in September or October
  • President-Elect  & Others as assigned
    AHIMA Advocacy Day – 3 days (Sun – Tues in March)
  • All Board of Directors
    MaHIMA State Convention – 3 days – All BOD Positions (usually in June)
