Session 1: AI/ML/NLP - What Does this Alphabet Soup Mean to Healthcare

Joe Grinstead, Principal, Information Technology, Divurgent.

With over 30 years of Healthcare IT experience, Joe has a broad background including working for healthcare organizations as well as services and technology organizations.  For the last several years, Joe has been focused on leveraging the public cloud and its various technology such as AI/ML and NLP to help healthcare organizations be more effective and efficient.

Summary:  Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it's related disciplines Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) are emerging as key technologies.  In this session, we'll talk about what these disciplines are and how they can be leveraged in healthcare.  Additionally, we'll discuss some interesting ethical considerations for using AI/ML and NLP.

  • *Where AI/NL and NLP are being used today - including by you, whether you know it or not.
  • *How AI/NL and NLP can be leveraged for healthcare
  • *Some ethical considerations of AI/ML and NLP

Session 2: Virtual Care at Mass General Brigham

Elizabeth Audette, Manager of Provider Workflow Optimization Virtual Care Team at Brigham and Women's Hospital

Liz has worked in healthcare for over 16 years and is excited by recent and future innovations within virtual care.  As Manager of Workflow Optimization, Liz manages the full scope of virtual care process improvement for ambulatory, inpatient, and external programs.

Summary: 
Review virtual care platforms, implementation, and compliance approach in a large academic health system.

  • *Understand the scope and scale of virtual care in the U.S. during the Covid-19 pandemic
  • *Characterize patient and provider factors associated with use of virtual care, including health equity and access disparities
  • *Consider the “right amount” of virtual care in practice
