Job Description: Under general supervision of the Coding Manager, incumbent is responsible for the review of the medical records for the correct code and DRG assignemnt. Performs continuous coding audits and reports findings to Coding Manager and assists with development of proactive studies to assess coding quality in selected sub-populations. Presents and makes recommendations with regard to necessary in-service education. Performs quality assessment of departmental coding quality through statistically valid sampling techniques. Develops liaison with clinical departments, medical staff, and the Health Information Services Department. Reviews all insurance audit DRG changes and writes appeals for all invalid changes, citing supporting medical record documentation and appropriate official coding guidelines. Team leads the area in the absence of the Coding Manager.
