July 2010 e-Survey RESULTS - Social Networking
Reported by Wendy ZagroskiMaHIMA Communications CommitteeOur recent e-Survey in July focused on social networking. We received responses from 130 members of which sixty-two (48%) use social networking sites and sixty-eight (52%) do not.
When it comes to which sites are preferred for personal use, an overwhelming majority cited You Tube, followed by Facebook, My Space, Twitter and LinkedIn:

The sites that are used for both work and personal are Twitter (50%), Facebook (25%), LinkedIn (18%), My Space (33%), and You Tube (5%). Respondents that selected using more than one site visited Facebook most often. Respondents visited the sites (36%) weekly, (35%) once daily, (18%) several times a day, and (11%) monthly.
Sixty percent of respondents are not connected to a social media site via Smart Phone or hand-held portable device, while forty percent are connected.MaHIMA using Social NetworkingThe majority of respondents (82%) would like to see MaHIMA use social networking, while 18% were against the idea. Respondents selected "breaking news" and "event announcements" as top ranking choices for how MaHIMA could use social networking. Selections were ranked as follows (respondents could vote for multiple items):
Of the 18% who were against the idea, most respondents did not see the need and preferred talking in person. The reasons why they did not use social networking sites are as follows: lack of time (68%), concerns about privacy (45%), and concerns about computer viruses/malicious software (28%).
